"Hey is there anyone interested in starting some informal racing down at Jericho this season. I was thinking we could swap phone numbers and meet down at the beach when it's convienent. I know there are a number of us who have formula gear and there's probabply some who want to get into it. If you are at all interested please respond to this message by visiting the rigging area forum at bigwavedave.ca. The hope is that we might grow this into an actual race series."

Racing 2009

Hey would anyone be interested in doing some Formula racing in Vancouver this summer? I figured, wind permitting, we could tack onto Jericho Sunday racing or just use buoys around the bay for a course.

formula

i just joined and posted on face book to "Vancouver Sailing & Windsurfing" group. I too want to get some people together for some touring..

I'm moving away this fall so won't be able to race, but if you or anyone else wants to use this page to organize sessions I can set something up. The few races we held were quite successful, with a course along the beach between Jericho and Spanish banks.

Anyone wanna get this going this summer?

I'm relatively new to windsurfing and would love to try out some racing locally. Would anyone be interested in some Monday/Tuesday racing out of Jericho?

I will try to race both

I will try to race both days. Should be fun!

A great day of racing

Igor:

We held 3 fun races on Sunday. The wind was between 12-18 knots getting stronger each race. There were 8 sailors (Shane, Vlad, Ron, Elliot, Rob, Igor, Stephane and Nik). The course was setup along the Spanish Banks with the upwind mark being the 1st marker. Sailboat traffic presented some challenges and opportunites to learn about sailing tactics. Rob gave us more insight into Formula racing and sailing tactics which immediately proved very useful on the course. Rob led in all races. The rest of the pack followed behind.

Still on?

I have been SO out of the loop as of late and have a major sailing itch to scratch. What's the happs for Sunday? Would love to get out for an hour or two

The forecast for Sat-Sun

The forecast for Sat-Sun should realize 12-16 knots. Sun should be more consistent for racing.

Formula

Sorry to miss it, will be in the Gorge. Hopefully next time. Have fun!

We're planning on racing

We're planning on racing either saturday or sunday this weekend as the forecast shows a good westerly gradient. Sunday is looking slight better but both days should be good with the high temperatures forecasted. As such, which day is better for everyone?

Both days look great! We

Both days look great! We should try to race both days.

My vote is for sunday.

I'll be there, to sail this

I'll be there, to sail this time :)

Re: Racing on Sunday

I will try to make it on Sunday as long as you don't start to early!

We're going to try racing

We're going to try racing tomorrow if enough people are available and show up.

I'll go and watch.. what

I'll go and watch.. what time are you people intending to head down?

oops, that was me posting

oops, that was me posting above. forgot to log in.

I'll probably get there

I'll probably get there around lunch and we'll run races after 1 when people have arrived. What's the status on your gear?

My gear won't arrive till

My gear won't arrive till mid June. So it will be some time still.

Next monday looks good for a

Next monday looks good for a clearing westerly followed by a strong high pressure. Who is free to race that evening if the wind holds out?

Pictures from the first day

NOR

The current plan is to race this sunday at Jericho starting around noon assuming that the wind shows up as planned. We'll launch from here with extra parking available here.

FORMULA RACING

I would love to join you guys for this formula racing.
Be cool one day to outnumber the Tuesday and Wednesday evening series of the RVYC saiboats.

According to current long

According to current long range forecasts a high pressure will build in by next weekend. Let's keep an eye on it this week as we may be able to hold races if we get some moderate westerlies either saturday or sunday. I've an exam on saturday so I'd only be there if it were on sunday(preferable) or before 2 on saturday.

formula starts

I know of a really easy way of starting races it's call a rabbit start it does not need a start boat or a commitee on the beach, racing sailboats use it in large fleets to get fair starts away we could use this it's great for training.

That should work nicely for

That should work nicely for us.

race days

I think to make it easy with figuring out the races we could just meet at the beach at a specified time/location and have a quick skippers meeting. Everyone racing could syncronize watches, figure out what time the race(s) will start and what the course might be. As far as finishing order I imagine there won't be too many of us. (sad but probably true!)

sail numbers

I think if there are just a few of us we don't really care about our placings we don't need sail numbers ,if we have someone on the shore marking down our placing we do need them unless they know everyone in the race.If anyone is going to get more serious and do other races sail numbers are required. To get a official canadain sail # you can aply though windsuring canada its only $25 for the year and you get a news letter every once and a while,it keeps you in the loop and gets you your very own sail number which is reconized world wide[www.windsurfcanada.com]

Any thoughts on sail numbers?

Any thoughts on sail numbers? Do we need them?

Any ideas on when we should

Any ideas on when we should hold the first race and who'd be willing to manage the starting/finish lines?
